Look, look, look! Santa is coming! by RavenMontoya Look, look, look! Santa is coming! by RavenMontoya
I tried sooooooo hard to get a cat - any cat - to pose with that lantern. They. Just. Did. Not. Want. To. (!!!!!) :frustrated: revamp

This is the best photo I got from this little experiment.
I thought a nice title could perhaps "save" it. It's a little bit funny if you imagine there's a story attached to it. I... ehh... hope. :XD:

I don't really know what caught Tintin's attention here. A bird, squirrel or one of the other cats. I had all four kitties with me at the time. And as I said... Nope. They did not want to sit by the lantern. They all sniffed it and somehow found it creepy (maybe because of the heat from the candle) so they took off. Tintin was the only one that sat beside it for a very short while and he (as you can see) refused to look at the camera. *sigh*

Plus, the pretty frost was melting fast. Like... REALLY FAST. :panic:
Less than an hour after I took this photo all of the frost was gone without a trace. Instead I have fog that would make Silent Hill feel right at home, but... Not very Christmas~y  is it? sad
So, no. This photo is as good as it gets, I'm afraid.

Enjoy! And happy holidays! christmas wave

Please don't hate me, but when I saw the thumbnail of this pic at first I thought it looked like some kind of wild animal like a fox or something...in the woods...standing next to a fire hydrant.  :D

Aww, I don't hate that at all. Sounds very cute. And I can totally see why you would get that impression from the thumbnail. :giggle:
In fact, Tintin has been mistaken for a fox before. It's the fur colour. :XD:

Cats can be bitches.
There's a lynx living near my house and when I want to take a photo of it it hides not to be seen again for days, weeks or even months at a time.
I sewar that animal is more elusive than Big Foot.

Haha, I think the lynx is notorious for being hard to see.
There are rumours about there being at least one lynx in the area where I live, but I've never even found tracks after it. I'd so love to see it though. :)

But "kinglet"... isn't that a bird? :confused
Would you care to explain what you mean? :meow:

beautyliesintheeye Featured By Owner Jan 20, 2017
Yes, it's a bird. A very common and endearing fellow. Plump looking and quite satisfied of itself... hence the name (both in English and French: roitelet). No just joking: it's because of the bright (yellow) colored spot on its head.
Anyway, I was imagining your cat catching a glimpse of one of those, hence stoically waiting close to the lantern. You can see that something has piqued its interest.

Ahh, I see. Now it makes sense. :D
I have loads of kinglets in the forest around my house. :meow:
So it could easily have been one of them that Tintin spotted. It's not impossible, at least. :giggle:

This is darling! For starters, I'm impressed Tintin even wanted to sit on the frosted earth! ;p Second, the title does a lot for the story! :D It's left me imagining Tintin out all night with a lantern waiting for Santa and now I'm wondering how on Earth Tintin carried that lantern. :giggle:

Aww, thanks! :D
He's quite fluffy and insulated so he doesn't seem to mind sitting on cold things. However, he is very fussy about not wanting to get his paws wet or cold. If they are both wet and cold then he makes a very funny walk as if he wanted to walk with all four paws in the air. It's hilarious. :XD:

And, yeah... I'm so happy I came up with a good title for this one. I was so unhappy with it before I came up with the story title. :giggle:
But of course he carried the lantern by magic. Or... had his personal slave *cough* carry it for him. ;P

you're welcome!
Man, he sounds like quite the spectacle with that walk.
Its funny how art pieces can be like that. "Man, something is just missing....AHA!" :D
Oh! I hadn't considered magic (I was entertaining the unrealistic concept of him using his tail:giggle:) or the slave (would that slave perchance be said photographer?;p cause my cat is very much the kind to declare "go do my bidding, human")

It is truly a spectacle and if I ever manage to catch his silly walk on video I will upload it on YouTube right away. :XD:
So far I've failed getting a good video of it though. I'm really bad at keeping the camera around when letting the cats out the door. It's not something I usually think about. Maybe I should. :giggle:

Yup, I'm a certified slave! Always there to open doors, fill water bowls, turn on taps if running water is demanded, scratch behind ears, hand out candy and rub bellies. Or carry lanterns, of course. ;P
A cat carrying a lantern by using its tail would be so sweet though. I like that idea. It's very fairy tale like. :D

:giggle: Ooo, I look forward to that day! hehe its so tricky to get animals to do what you want on cue. I swear, some of mine get stage-fright when the camera comes out. ;p

LOL some say people own their pets, but in reality its just servitude.

:D I'm glad you like the idea! Definitely very fairy tale-esque! (now I want to try and draw it...:painter:)

Some cats don't like the small sounds the camera makes that we humans don't actually think about. :D
The lens whirls when focusing and there are little beeps and stuff. The zoom usually makes noises they find very strange too and some cats shy away as soon as the camera is turned on.
But you can "cure" it but keeping the camera around a lot, I've notice. Then they start to get used to it and don't see it as very... strange or frightening, whatever it is they think about it. :giggle:

You know... I sort of want to draw it too. (Just wish I could draw better!) Maybe a photomanip then... Hmmm....

Oh that is so true! I have an old camera that was super noisy, but now with just my camera phone its quieter but my critters still see it as an anomaly. I think they are just anti-technology. ;p

A photomanip would be cool! I've been daydreaming about how to draw it in a fairy tale setting (and what fairy tale it would be!). I have a photo of my kitty Percy with his tail in a hook at the end that suggests how one could carry a tiny one. :giggle: Maybe a reference photo...I hope to sketch it out soon. So many ideas, so little time!

Cats are your masters!! You can't say "I want this" to a cat!! =p
I didn't think he was looking for santa... I thought he was like a gardian!! "I am the gardian of this land!!" =p

And, yes, I think that's the reason he or the other cats didn't want to go near it. It did become very hot after a while and maybe it smelled a bit bad too. Lanterns sometimes do.
